In a tight football game throughout, defending Mountain West champions San Jose State University (SJSU<\/abbr>) held off the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at M\u0101noa<\/a>, 17-13, in the conference opener for both teams at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex on September 18.<\/p>\n

The Rainbow Warriors had an opportunity to win on the final play of the game but Chevan Cordeiro\u2019s pass floated high in the corner of the endzone. With the victory, SJSU<\/abbr> retained possession of the Dick Tomey Legacy Trophy and posted its ninth consecutive Mountain West win.<\/p>\n

The third straight meeting in Honolulu was a defensive battle as each team punted 11 times. But it was a blocked punt by the Spartans in the second quarter that led to a SJSU<\/abbr> touchdown to tie the game at 7.<\/p>\n

The Rainbow Warriors will return to the road next week when the team travels to New Mexico State for a matchup with a former Western Athletic Conference rival on Saturday, September 25. Kickoff is at 2 p.m. HST<\/abbr>.<\/abbr><\/p>\n
