Burns School of Medicine<\/a> after it was vandalized over the Labor Day weekend. Tail lights were damaged and graffiti covered a big portion of the <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/view\/hawaiihomeproject\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> <abbr>H.O.M.E.<\/abbr> Project<\/a> van, which is used to provide free medical services to <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span>\u2019s houseless population.<\/p>\n<p>The <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> <abbr>H.O.M.E.<\/abbr> Project, which stands for Houseless Outreach &#38; Medical Education, is also an integral part of the medical curriculum at <abbr>JABSOM<\/abbr>. Services are provided during weekly student-run clinics at nine sites across <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span>. In addition to these clinics, the mobile health van is used for outreach to other unsheltered houseless populations and provides special events for keiki at the shelters. It also played a role in providing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2021\/02\/02\/jabsom-tmcl-test-houseless\/\">free, rapid result COVID-19 testing<\/a> to underserved communities.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Our mobile van is critical for the functioning of our clinic and we can\u2019t provide our usual services without it. All of our operational costs are usually paid for via grants and grassroots fundraising, so unexpected expenses like these are extremely hard on us,&rdquo; said <strong>Jill Omori<\/strong>, associate professor and executive director of the <abbr>H.O.M.E.<\/abbr> Project. &ldquo;To find the <abbr>RV<\/abbr> once again vandalized is devastating for our medical students because volunteering on van missions is one of <abbr>JABSOM<\/abbr>\u2019s requirements in the medical doctor program.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<p>Anyone with information about the vandalism is encouraged to contact the Honolulu Police Department.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For the third time this year, the Hawaii <abbr>H.O.M.E.<\/abbr> Project van at the John A.
