Wafu (Japanese style) ʻulu<\/span> stew, a Kapiʻolani<\/span> Community College<\/a> student\u2019s winning culinary creation, will be available at 7-Eleven Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span><\/a> stores for a limited time beginning on August 3.<\/p>\n

Eri Abe<\/strong>\u2019s savory stew and fellow student Jeongyeon Shim<\/strong>\u2019s tteokbokki, spicy rice cake stir-fry, were the co-first-place winners of a 7-Eleven Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> competition<\/a> to create a better-for-you bento or entrée in December 2020.<\/p>\n

“I hope people taste this bento,” Abe said after winning. “Many people don\u2019t know breadfruit like ʻulu,<\/span> so I want people to know about the vegetables.”<\/p>\n

Abe and Shim each won $1,000. Shim\u2019s winning dish was featured at 7-Eleven Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> locations earlier this summer.<\/p>\n

Students worked closely with 7-Eleven Â鶹´«Ã½\u2019s<\/span> Senior Category Manager of Fresh Foods Debbie Lee Soon.<\/p>\n

“This is the third year that we have partnered with Kapiʻolani<\/span> Community College and our second year with Leeward Community College,” Soon said. “Year after year,
\nwe have seen a lot of enthusiasm, pride and creativity from participating students.”<\/p>\n

Wafu ʻulu<\/span> stew will sell for $5.99 at Oʻahu<\/span> stores and $6.99 at stores on other islands.<\/p>\n

Abe and Shim both graduated from Kapiʻolani<\/span> CC<\/abbr> in the spring.<\/p>\n
