Burns School of Medicine<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> and The Queen\u2019s Health Systems (Queen\u2019s) announced a three-party affiliation agreement between <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/jabsom.hawaii.edu\">John A. Burns School of Medicine<\/a> (<abbr>JABSOM<\/abbr>), Queen\u2019s and University Health Partners of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> (<abbr>UHP<\/abbr>). This affiliation agreement, expected to be operational by September, will expand medical education and research, engage the next generation of healthcare professionals and improve the health and well-being of the people of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><abbr>UH<\/abbr> is currently working with another one of its valued healthcare partners, Hawaii Pacific Health, to develop a separate affiliation addressing the departments of Pediatrics, <abbr title=\"obstetrics and gynecology\">OB\/GYN<\/abbr> and Family Medicine. <\/p>\n<p>The new affiliation agreement with Queen\u02bbs will benefit patients and the community by: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Strengthening and enhancing the education of the next generation of medical students, residents, fellows and other health professionals in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>.<\/li>\n<li>Attracting and retaining talented faculty, physicians and researchers in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>.<\/li>\n<li>Expanding clinical and research programs and providing opportunities to create innovative models of care. <\/li>\n<li>Enhancing teaching, research and community service missions.<\/li>\n<li>Encouraging and creating pathways for the next generation of healthcare professionals to provide care in our state.<\/li>\n<li>Improving each organization\u2019s ability to meet the needs of vulnerable communities and address health inequities.<\/li>\n<li>Accelerating the achievement of improving the overall health of communities served.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A key component of this affiliation agreement is the creation of a combined physician group to be named The Queen\u2019s University Medical Group (<abbr>QUMG<\/abbr>). This group of more than 450 providers, representing 17 specialties, will further strengthen high quality, compassionate care, innovation, research and education in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the <abbr>QUMG<\/abbr>, <abbr>UH<\/abbr> faculty will be employed and supported by <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>\u2019s largest clinical site for training medical students and more than 100 residents and fellows from <abbr>JABSOM<\/abbr>. Queen\u2019s will ensure the medical group has the support needed to meet educational needs. <abbr>JABSOM<\/abbr> will oversee the academic activities of the faculty, and <abbr>UHP<\/abbr> will help sustain support of <abbr>JABSOM<\/abbr>\u2019s teaching and research mission.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This opportunity to align the clinical care and academic roles of those working at Queen\u2019s to enhance training of our learners will transform medical education and research at <abbr>JABSOM<\/abbr>.
