However, <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>\u2019s ongoing shortage of qualified mental health counselors has hindered meeting the growing demand, especially in rural areas.<\/p>\n<p>A recent full re-accreditation of <a href=\"https:\/\/hilo.hawaii.edu\/\">University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> at Hilo<\/a>\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/counseling.uhh.hawaii.edu\/\">Master of Arts Program in counseling psychology<\/a> is expected to help address the expanding need for services in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Employment opportunities in this field are expected to grow at a faster than average rate over the coming years,&rdquo; said <strong>Charmaine Higa-McMillan<\/strong>, professor of psychology and director of the <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> Hilo <abbr>MA<\/abbr> counseling psychology program.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Graduates of the program have employment opportunities in a number of settings, including, but not limited to, community mental health clinics, public and private elementary and secondary schools, colleges and universities, correctional facilities, vocational rehabilitation and career counseling, residential care, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, child welfare and military counseling settings.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/mpcacaccreditation.org\/\">Masters in Psychology and Counseling Accreditation Council<\/a> (<abbr>MPCAC<\/abbr>) approved <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Hilo\u2019s certification, which will run through June 2029.
