The non-credit courses open to all <abbr>UH<\/abbr> students, faculty, staff and community members were taught by fluent &#699;\u014dlelo <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> speakers.<\/p>\n<p>Dialogue in the 30-second spot is spoken in both &#699;\u014dlelo <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> and English. Viewers will see English subtitles when Hawaiian speaking faculty pop-up on screen which include <span aria-label=\"Hawaiinuiakea\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½nui&#257;kea<\/span> Dean <strong>Jonathan <span aria-label=\"Kamakawiwoole\">Kamakawiwo&#699;ole<\/span> Osorio<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/hshk\/kawaihuelani\/\">Kawaihuelani Center for Hawaiian Language<\/a> instructor <strong>N. <span aria-label=\"Haalilio\">Ha&#699;alilio<\/span> Solomon<\/strong> and <strong>E\u014dmailani K. Kukahiko<\/strong>, a <a href=\"https:\/\/coe.hawaii.edu\/cs\/\">curriculum studies<\/a> specialist at the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa <a href=\"https:\/\/coe.hawaii.edu\/\">College of Education<\/a> (<abbr>COE<\/abbr>).<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Our awareness and inspiration come from our language, our stories, songs, and our experiences with our &#699;\u0101ina,&rdquo; said Osorio. &ldquo;Our teaching serves more than our native people. Kukahiko<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&ldquo;Whether we are talking about becoming a <abbr>NH<\/abbr> place of learning or just our general kuleana to <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> and the world, that&#8217;s a k\u0101kou (everyone) thing, as my friend <strong>Chris Yanuaria<\/strong> reminded me,&rdquo; Lipe said. &ldquo;So we wanted to highlight some of the diverse folks on campus who are already modeling their commitment to this important work. If we had more than 30 seconds we could showcase so many more!&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/sls\/\">Department of Second Language Studies<\/a> student <strong>Ha Nguyen<\/strong> is one of those diverse faces. Nguyen, originally from Vietnam, is keen on honoring <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>\u2019s Indigenous values.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I&#8217;m a malihini (visitor) to this place and I feel that it is my kuleana to learn from the wisdom of Native Hawaiians who have lived here for generations,&rdquo; Nguyen explained. &ldquo;The university itself is striving toward being a Hawaiian place of learning, isn&#8217;t it natural that each of its members should work toward that goal, too?&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Viewers will also see <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa <abbr>COE<\/abbr> faculty <strong>Keith Cross<\/strong> and <strong>Charmaine Mangram<\/strong> who are both from Los Angeles and Maui-born Christopher Yanuaria, program coordinator of <a href=\"http:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/pauviolence\/index.php\">Prevention, Awareness, Understanding Violence<\/a> (PAU Violence) program at <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa. Campus Arboretum Curator <strong>N\u014dweo Kai<\/strong> closes the <abbr>TV<\/abbr> spot beneath the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2021\/04\/13\/tree-recognition-manoa-campus\/\">award-winning sprawling trees<\/a> she helps to m\u0101lama (care for) along McCarthy Mall.<\/p>\n<p>Collaboration between <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/enrollment\/\">Enrollment Management<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/nhpol\/\">Native Hawaiian Place of Learning Advancement Office<\/a> and <span aria-label=\"Hawaiinuiakea\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½nui&#257;kea<\/span> was vital to molding the branding spot\u2019s message.
