The winning alma mater song will represent the campus <span aria-label=\"ohana\">&#699;ohana<\/span> with an ethos that reflects the values and sense of place of the <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> West <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span> campus.<\/p>\n<h2>Contest rules and selection process<\/h2>\n<p>The contest is open to all <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> West <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span> current and former faculty, staff and students, as well as alumni.<\/p>\n<p>Participants are encouraged to submit melodies and lyrics that are easy to sing and learn with moderate vocal range and include regular phrase structure, have broad appeal and are appropriate for ceremonial events.<\/p>\n<p>Participants may submit an original tune and lyrics or original lyrics to a pre-existing tune that is in the public domain.<\/p>\n<p>A panel of judges will review the submissions and reserves the right to make changes to improve the song&#8217;s long-term viability. Participants may submit multiple entries. The panel of judges may opt not to select any submissions and re-open the contest if desired.<\/p>\n<p>All submissions become the property of <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> West <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span> and will not be returned. The deadline to submit entries electronically is Friday, March 8.
