These courses reflect standards of learning and encompass the skills and knowledge that are essential for all graduates to have.<\/p>\n<p>The members of the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> General Education Curriculum Design Team, the experts and specialists from the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> community who will collaborate to produce a General Education proposal, have been chosen.<\/p>\n<p>Design Team members (in alphabetical order):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Nani Azman<\/strong>, Professor of Psychology, <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Maui College<\/li>\n<li><strong>Celia Bardwell-Jones<\/strong>, Professor of Philosophy, <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Hilo<\/li>\n<li><strong>Shana Brown<\/strong>, Associate Professor and Chair, History, <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa<\/li>\n<li><strong>Michael Cawdery<\/strong>, Professor of Education, Leeward Community College<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sam Giordanengo<\/strong>, Associate Professor of History, <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> <abbr title=\"Community College\">CC<\/abbr><\/li>\n<li><strong>Ryan Girard<\/strong>, Associate Professor of Sciences and Math Division Chair, <span aria-label=\"Kauai\">Kaua&#699;i<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr><\/li>\n<li><strong><span aria-label=\"kuualoha\">ku&#699;ualoha<\/span> <span aria-label=\"hoomanawanui\">ho&#699;omanawanui<\/span><\/strong>, Professor of English, <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Manoa<\/li>\n<li><strong>Rene Hutchins<\/strong>, Student Representative<\/li>\n<li><strong>Karadeen Kam-Kalani<\/strong>, Professor of Speech, Division Chair, Humanities &#38; Social Sciences, Honolulu <abbr>CC<\/abbr><\/li>\n<li><strong>Kristin Kumashiro<\/strong>, Professor of Chemistry, <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Manoa<\/li>\n<li><strong>Nicolas Logue<\/strong>, Assistant Professor of Theatre, Faculty Senate Chair, Windward <abbr>CC<\/abbr><\/li>\n<li><strong>Mike Menchaca<\/strong>, Professor, Chair, and Graduate Chair, Learning Design &#38; Technology, <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Manoa<\/li>\n<li><strong>Amy McKee<\/strong>, Transfer Specialist, <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Manoa<\/li>\n<li><strong>Kealohilani Leleo<\/strong>, Student Representative<\/li>\n<li><strong>Leslie Opulauoho<\/strong>, Faculty Specialist, <abbr>UH<\/abbr> West <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>Marc Rollon<\/strong>, Student Representative<\/li>\n<li><strong>Anthony Silva<\/strong>, Associate Professor of <abbr title=\"English as a second language\">ESL<\/abbr>, System Assessment Coordinator Representative, <span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>With the support of faculty governance groups systemwide, <abbr>UH<\/abbr> President <strong>David Lassner<\/strong> convened a working group to, &ldquo;develop a plan for the redesign of general education at <abbr>UH<\/abbr> both substantively, the skills, competencies and knowledge that comprise general education, as well as structurally, how general education is organized and the curriculum is maintained.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>This is the first revision to the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> System\u2019s General Education requirements since 1999, which makes this redesign process a monumental milestone in the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> System\u2019s curriculum development.
