More than 5,000 face shields and almost 1,400 containers of hand sanitizer were donated to <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> in late April.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/kapiolani-ppe-donation-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"People with P P E donation\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-140679\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/kapiolani-ppe-donation-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/kapiolani-ppe-donation-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/kapiolani-ppe-donation.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The generous donation, valued at about $200,000, was designated for various programs and campuses, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kapiolani.hawaii.edu\/\"><span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> Community College<\/a> and <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/jabsom.hawaii.edu\/\">John A. Burns School of Medicine<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/cms.ctahr.hawaii.edu\/\">College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/lyon\/\">Lyon Arboretum<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/hawaiiathletics.com\/\">Athletics Department<\/a>, which said it would benefit athletic trainers and student athletes.<\/p>\n<p>A large portion of the donation, more than 1,000 face shields and about 4,600 containers of hand sanitizer, went to <span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> <abbr title=\"Community College\">CC<\/abbr> and was warmly welcomed by students and faculty in the emergency medical services, nursing and health sciences programs.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;It\u2019s definitely something that we need. We use this stuff on the daily,&rdquo; said <strong>Nicholas Tang<\/strong>, a student in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kapiolani.hawaii.edu\/academics\/programs-of-study\/emergency-medical-technician-program\/\">Emergency Medical Technician<\/a> (<abbr>EMT<\/abbr>) program.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This donation is pretty important because the [<abbr>EMT<\/abbr>] program was one of the only programs that had face-to-face learning at <span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> Community College and we definitely used a lot of <abbr>PPE<\/abbr> during that time,&rdquo; said <strong>Brett Tanchico<\/strong>, another <abbr>EMT<\/abbr> student.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/PPE-distriution-social_square1-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"People with donated P P E\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-140681\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/PPE-distriution-social_square1-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/PPE-distriution-social_square1-130x130.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/PPE-distriution-social_square1.jpg 720w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr>\u2019s share of the donation was boxed up and transported in more than 10 pallets. Students and staff used forklifts, and manpower to distribute the <abbr>PPE<\/abbr> across the campus.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We are so grateful for the donation of hand sanitizer and face shields to help keep our students, faculty and staff safe. While the vaccine efforts are well underway, the need to use <abbr>PPE<\/abbr> and other safeguards for those on campus in the coming months will remain,&rdquo; said <strong>Lisa Radak<\/strong>, dean of health sciences at <span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr>. &ldquo;This generous donation coupled with vaccinations will support campus operations and student learning activities without compromising the health of our &#699;ohana at <span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> Community College.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Tanchico added, &ldquo;I think it\u2019s really great.
