  {"id":13970,"date":"2013-02-11T15:36:42","date_gmt":"2013-02-12T01:36:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/?p=13970"},"modified":"2021-12-01T15:40:08","modified_gmt":"2021-12-02T01:40:08","slug":"use-of-revenue-bond-proceeds-recommended-for-palamanui","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2013\/02\/11\/use-of-revenue-bond-proceeds-recommended-for-palamanui\/","title":{"rendered":"Use of revenue bond proceeds recommended for P\u0101lamanui"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> &lt; 1<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minute<\/span><\/span><figure id=\"attachment_3840\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3840\" style=\"width: 630px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/palamanui.renderin.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"288\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3840\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/palamanui.renderin.jpg 620w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/palamanui.renderin-260x120.jpg 260w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3840\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Artist&#8217;s rendering of future <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Community College P&#257;lamanui campus<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"clear-photo\">Construction of a new University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> campus in West <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> is a step closer as the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/offices\/bor\/finance\/\">University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Board of Regents Committee on Budget and Finance<\/a> has recommended that $6.5 million in university revenue bond proceeds be re-purposed for the P&#257;lamanui campus development.<\/p>\n<p>If approved by the full <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/offices\/bor\/\"><abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> Board of Regents<\/a> at its February 21, 2013 meeting at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hilo.hawaii.edu\"><abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> Hilo<\/a>, the funds will be combined with the $9.31 million in private funds from P&#257;lamanui partners and $7.5 million in state general obligation bonds.<\/p>\n<p>The university is also working with the contractor to reach an agreement that would allow the project to be initiated with these available funds, in order to award the contract at $23.31 million.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The Budget and Finance Committee&#8217;s action reaffirms the university&#8217;s commitment to developing the P&#257;lamanui campus, increasing the availability of college programs from both <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Community College and <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> Hilo,&rdquo; said <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> Vice President for Community Colleges <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/admin\/executives\/vp_cc.html\"><strong>John Morton<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The project entails construction of P&#257;lamanui&#8217;s Culinary Arts Building and the Health Science and Student Services Building. Construction will cover approximately 24,000 square feet and will include new classrooms, learning kitchens and science laboratories.
