(Photo courtesy Honolulu <abbr>CC<\/abbr>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The National Association of Home Builders Student Chapter at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.honolulu.hawaii.edu\">Honolulu Community College<\/a> was recognized with the Rookie of the Year Award in the Two-Year College category of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nahb.org\/generic.aspx?sectionID=771&#038;genericContentID=93770\">Residential Construction Management Competition<\/a> held at the 2013 <abbr>NAHB<\/abbr> International Builders&#8217; Show in Las Vegas in January.<\/p>\n<p>More than 50 teams representing universities, community colleges, high schools and career technical schools across the United States participated in the annual competition, in which students solve real-life construction management problems and present their solutions to a judging panel of residential construction industry experts.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Our students worked hard on this project. It was difficult, it required hours of work after classes and these are only first year students in the program,&rdquo; said <strong>Norman Takeya<\/strong>, assistant professor in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.honolulu.hawaii.edu\/?q=node\/398\">Construction Management Program<\/a> at Honolulu Community College. &ldquo;This was an outstanding accomplishment for our students.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>For the two-year competition, student teams submitted a full set of working drawings for a house, a detailed materials estimate, and a complete construction schedule for their specific plan.
