Burns School of Medicine*#8217;s website)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/hawaii.gov\/health\/eoa\/HAPEE.html\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Healthy Aging Partnership<\/a> has received the 2013 Multicultural Aging award from the American Society on Aging, achieving national recognition for the partnership&#8217;s critical role in improving the health of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>&#8217;s multi-ethnic elderly population.<\/p>\n<p><abbr>HHAP<\/abbr> is a statewide coalition that includes representatives from the <a href=\"http:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/\">University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> at M&#257;noa<\/a>, the Executive Office on Aging, the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> State Department of Health, all four Area Agencies on Aging, service providers, Federally Qualified Health Centers, local health insurers and others. Serving as evaluators for <abbr>HHAP<\/abbr> are <strong>Kathryn L. Braun<\/strong>, professor of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/publichealth\/\">public health<\/a> with the <a href=\"http:\/\/jabsom.hawaii.edu\/jabsom\/\">John A. Burns School of Medicine<\/a>, and <strong>Michiyo Tomioka<\/strong>, doctoral student at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/sswork\/\">Myron B. Thompson School of Social Work<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Since its formation in 2003, <abbr>HHAP<\/abbr> has been successful in adapting two evidence-based health promotion programs to the multicultural population in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>. These programs are EnhanceFitness (an exercise program for seniors) and the Chronic Disease Self Management Program. Since 2007, 2,267 older adults have participated in these programs&#8212;447 in EnhanceFitness and 1,820 in <abbr>CDSMP<\/abbr>.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2003, the partnership has secured close to $1 million in federal and foundation funding to support these healthy aging programs. <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> state and county governments also have provided financial support.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;<span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> has one of the longest life expectancies in the country.
