The 6th annual University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at Hilo Ocean Day Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Mālama Kanaloa Festival<\/a> will be held on Saturday, February 23, 10 a.m.–3 p.m. at Hilo Bayfront Beach Park.<\/p>\n

Ocean Day promotes awareness of ocean and coastal issues such as conservation, sustainable use of resources and ocean safety through fun and interactive displays, activities and booths.<\/p>\n

Information booths inlcude UH<\/abbr> Hilo Marine Science<\/a> and Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> IMUA III<\/abbr> EPSCoR<\/a> researchers, Kalākaua Marine Education Center, NOAA’s Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument, The Honolulu Zoo, Hilo Marine Mammal Response Network and many more.<\/p>\n

Family-friendly activities include fishing games, marine critter touch tanks, mask and puppet making, marine life block-printing, makahiki games, face painting, poi pounding, seed planting and more. Enjoy live music by Kainani Kahaunaele, Lono Kanakaʻole<\/span> Trio, and hula by Ka ʻUmeke Kāʻeo<\/span> students.<\/p>\n

The event is hosted by the UH<\/abbr> Hilo Pacific Island Programs for Exploring Science<\/a> in partnership with the County of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span>, EPSCoR Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> IMUA III<\/abbr>, Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Pacific Island Campus Compact<\/a>, UH<\/abbr> Hilo Campus and Community Service Program<\/a>, UH<\/abbr> Hilo Student Activities Council<\/a> and the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Sea Grant<\/a>.<\/p>\n
