The fourth <a href=\"https:\/\/lftic.lll.hawaii.edu\/launchpad\/\">LaunchPad<\/a>, organized by <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/lftic.lll.hawaii.edu\/\">Language Flagship Technology Innovation Center<\/a> (Tech Center), was held online, February 20.<\/p>\n<p>A group of judges selected <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=6EeQrwicV0I&#038;feature=youtu.be\">FabuLingua<\/a> as the 2021 LaunchPad winner over four other finalists. FabuLingua helps kids learn languages through interactive stories by writers and illustrators from all over the world. The learning tool maximizes comprehensible input through magical children\u2019s stories, enabling the subconscious development of listening, comprehension and reading skills.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/manoa-call-fabulingua-launchpad-winner-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"purple logo with a drawn unicorn\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-136289\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/manoa-call-fabulingua-launchpad-winner-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/manoa-call-fabulingua-launchpad-winner-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/manoa-call-fabulingua-launchpad-winner.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Leslie Begert, co-founder of the Texas start-up said, &ldquo;FabuLingua is absolutely thrilled to have won the prestigious LaunchPad 2021 competition as the best new technology for language learning! We are honored that FabuLingua&#8217;s unique story-based language learning product for children was recognized by renowned experts. Winning LaunchPad is an important milestone that enhances our credibility with teaching partners, families and investors. It also strengthens our resolve to grow and impact children&#8217;s language learning globally.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>An engaged audience of more than 300 language educators and tech enthusiasts from 15 countries chose <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=wmK7vpiBS5Y&#038;feature=youtu.be\">ImmerseMe<\/a> for the People\u2019s Choice Award. ImmerseMe is about virtually stepping into a beautiful and authentic location to learn a language. Users can select from more than 3,000 interactive scenarios across nine languages: German, Spanish, French, English, Japanese, Chinese, Italian, Greek and Indonesian.<\/p>\n<p>Scott Cardwell, co-founder and <abbr title=\"Chief Executive Officer\">CEO<\/abbr> of the New Zealand-based company said, &ldquo;This award is a huge validation for the journey we\u2019re undertaking to build the world\u02bbs best academic language tool. We see an opportunity to roll out our virtual reality curriculum in <abbr title=\"Kindergarten\">K<\/abbr>&#8211;12, higher <abbr title=\"education\">ed<\/abbr> and government training programs all over the world.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The Tech Center will facilitate continued collaboration with LaunchPad entrepreneurs through programs such as <a href=\"https:\/\/lftic.lll.hawaii.edu\/blended-learning-pilots\/\">Blended Learning Pilots<\/a>, which provides opportunities for flagship programs to test the innovations.
