A new webinar series will provide students and others interested in the field of justice with an opportunity to meet leaders who have dedicated themselves to the promise of justice. This semester, Honolulu Community College<\/a> and the William S. Richardson School of Law<\/a> at the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at M\u0101noa are partnering to host the speaker series Voices of Justice.<\/p>\n

“The ideal of ‘justice’ is a cornerstone on which rule-of-law societies are built, and where human flourishing resides,” said Bill Corbett<\/strong>, a Honolulu CC<\/abbr> administration of justice faculty member. “A special trust and confidence is reserved for those who serve the mission of upholding that ideal.”<\/p>\n

“Preparing students with knowledge that will ready them for a vocation in the law is the school\u2019s highest priority,” said Camille Nelson<\/strong>, dean of the William S. Richardson School of Law, who will be one of the series\u2019 featured speakers. “The commitment to a life of purpose is real, the justice-seeking is core to the fabric of the institution.”<\/p>\n

The speakers, who include judges, scholars, advocates, victims, diplomats and law enforcement officials, have intimately experienced justice, in the majesty of its delivery and the tragedy of its denial.<\/p>\n

The webinar series starts January 27 at 2 p.m. with Rushan Abbas, the founding Director of Campaign for Uyghurs, an advocacy group seeking redress for human rights abuses being perpetrated against the ethnic minority population of China\u2019s Xinjiang province. Abbas, who organized the 14-country One Voice One Step movement to protest the People\u2019s Republic of China government\u2019s detention of millions of Uyghurs in concentration camps, is the subject of the recently released documentary, In Search of My Sister<\/a><\/em> which depicts the extrajudicial disappearance of her sister, a physician in Xinjiang, China.<\/p>\n
