Rosie the Riveter became an American symbol of strength in unity, and today, her likeness has reappeared on social media to encourage a united front in the battle against COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chien-Wen Tseng<\/strong>, a family physician and professor at the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> at M\u0101noa <a href=\"http:\/\/jabsom.hawaii.edu\">John A. Burns School of Medicine<\/a> (<abbr>JABSOM<\/abbr>), posted a photo of her and her colleagues, <strong>Seiji Yamada<\/strong>, <strong>Thomas Quattlebaum<\/strong> and <strong>Allen Hixon<\/strong>, showing off the band-aids on their just-vaccinated arms, imitating Rosie the Riveter. They join many other healthcare workers across the the <abbr title=\"United States\">U.S.<\/abbr> who have been posting their vaccination selfies on social media along with the popular hashtag, &#35;thisisourshot.<\/p>\n<p>By the first week of January 2021, more than 25,000 COVID-19 vaccines had been given to doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other healthcare providers in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_134047\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-134047\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/manoa-jabson-baker-nina-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"Nina Baker \" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-134047\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/manoa-jabson-baker-nina-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/manoa-jabson-baker-nina-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/manoa-jabson-baker-nina.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-134047\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Nina Baker<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Nina Baker<\/strong>, a family medicine resident at <abbr>JABSOM<\/abbr>, posted a powerful selfie of her own: She throws up a Rosie the Riveter flex while a &ldquo;I got my <abbr>COVID-19<\/abbr> vaccine&rdquo; sticker is proudly displayed on the front of an electric breast pump. She understands that the decision to become vaccinated is a profoundly personal one that requires a deep sense of trust in science. As both a family physician and new mom, Baker chose to become vaccinated to keep her patients, colleagues and <span aria-label=\"ohana\">&#699;ohana<\/span> safe, especially her baby girl Izzy.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Knowing there was a possibility of creating protective antibodies to pass to Izzy through breast milk if I got vaccinated, I saw this as an opportunity to protect her, to protect my body and to protect those around me,&rdquo; Baker said. <\/p>\n<p>Tseng said receiving a <abbr>COVID-19<\/abbr> vaccine could be &ldquo;our shot to end the pandemic&rdquo; but it can\u2019t be done alone. She smiles thinking about her kids, whose lives have been turned upside down by the pandemic and how they haven\u2019t complained once. In bold marker, the sign reads: &ldquo;Our mom is vaccinating for us. We love you mom.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;My kids are so proud of me.
