Six mainland legal scholars, including experts on criminal justice transformation, business law and human rights, legal entrepreneurship, the protection of Indigenous people\u2019s knowledge, and tax law and policy, will teach intensive extra-curricular classes January 11–15 as extra credits for University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at Mānoa William S. Richardson School of Law<\/a> students. This year, because of the pandemic, the scholars will teach and lecture via Zoom.<\/p>\n

January-Term (J-Term<\/abbr>) brings outstanding jurists and legal authorities to the UH<\/abbr> law school annually, offering a bonus series of mini-courses to law students. Additionally, four of the classes on Friday, January 15, will be open to the public and available to attorneys wanting to earn continuing legal education (CLE<\/abbr>) credits.<\/p>\n

Each year, J-Term<\/abbr> includes a visiting scholar specifically from Harvard Law School sponsored by funding designated by the late Frank Boas.<\/p>\n

The 2021 Frank Boas Visiting Harvard Professor is Ruth L. Okediji, the Jeremiah Smith Jr. professor of law at Harvard Law School whose course, “The Protection of Indigenous People\u2019s Knowledge,” promises to be both relevant and insightful.<\/p>\n

Okediji\u2019s lecture will be open to the public on January 15 from 11 a.m.–1:15 p.m.<\/p>\n
