Burns School of Medicine<\/a> (<abbr>JABSOM<\/abbr>) worried how it would affect its annual Giving Tree, which fulfills Christmas wish lists of homeless keiki. This year, the <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/view\/hawaiihomeproject\">Homeless Outreach and Medical Education<\/a> (<abbr>HOME<\/abbr>) Project and the Family Medicine Interest Group took a digital route.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Fortunately we moved everything online this year and we were able to reach a bigger part of the community and we got more donations than we have before,&rdquo; said <strong>Amandalin Rock<\/strong>, a third-year medical student at <abbr>JABSOM<\/abbr>.<\/p>\n<p>The community responded, fulfilling the wish lists of 380 homeless\u2014the largest endeavor in the history of the giving tree at <abbr>JABSOM<\/abbr>. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I\u2019m just really touched that everybody has just been so generous and even after all the kids were sponsored I was getting calls from people wanting to donate and wanting to contribute to the program,&rdquo; said <abbr>HOME<\/abbr> Project Founder and Director of the Office of Medical Education <strong>Jill Omori<\/strong>. &ldquo;And so we\u2019ve just been really blessed this year.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><abbr>JABSOM<\/abbr> medical students and pre-medical student volunteers spent hours wrapping up gifts and getting them ready to be delivered to keiki across several <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span> shelters, including the Family Assessment Center in <span aria-label=\"Kakaako\">Kaka&#699;ako<\/span>, Onelauena and Onemalu Shelters in Kalaeloa, <span aria-label=\"Kakaako\">Kaka&#699;ako<\/span> <span aria-label=\"Paiolu\">Pai&#699;olu<\/span> Kaiaulu Shelter in <span aria-label=\"Waianae\">Wai&#699;anae<\/span>, <abbr title=\"Institute for Human Services\">IHS<\/abbr> Women&#8217;s and Children&#8217;s Shelter, Villages of <span aria-label=\"Maili\">M&#257;&#699;ili<\/span> Shelter, and the boat harbor encampment in <span aria-label=\"Waianae\">Wai&#699;anae<\/span>. <\/p>\n<p>This year, they also supplied gifts for some of the kids to give to their parents and made goodie bags for families containing food, hygiene products and emergency supplies (first-aid kits, flashlights, blankets, etc).<\/p>\n<p>For more, go to the <a href=\"https:\/\/jabsom.hawaii.edu\/jabsoms-first-virtual-giving-tree-fulfills-record-number-of-christmas-wishes-for-homeless-keiki\/\">JABSOM website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_132963\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-132963\" style=\"width: 676px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/manoa-jabsom-giving-tree.jpg\" alt=\"medical students and van with presents\" width=\"676\" height=\"381\" class=\"size-full wp-image-132963\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/manoa-jabsom-giving-tree.jpg 676w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/manoa-jabsom-giving-tree-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/manoa-jabsom-giving-tree-130x73.jpg 130w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 676px) 100vw, 676px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-132963\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><abbr title=\"John A.
