Prospective students now have more time to consider the benefits and convenience of attending one of seven <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> community colleges: <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> <abbr title=\"Community College\">CC<\/abbr>, Honolulu <abbr>CC<\/abbr>, <span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr>, <span aria-label=\"Kauai\">Kaua&#699;i<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr>, Leeward <abbr>CC<\/abbr>, <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Maui College and Windward <abbr>CC<\/abbr> for the spring 2021 semester.<\/p>\n<p>Financial aid is available, along with the <a href=\"http:\/\/uhcc.hawaii.edu\/ovpcc\/removing-cost\/promise\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Promise Scholarship<\/a>, which meets 100&#37; of unmet tuition needs for qualified students. Other financial aid is accessible through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2020\/11\/22\/scholarships-for-furloughed-unemployed-residents\/\">K&#363;lia Scholarship<\/a> for qualified residents whose employment has been impacted by COVID-19 and through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2020\/11\/08\/round-two-stronger-you-campaign\/\">Round Two, Stronger You<\/a>, a campaign encouraging former <abbr>UH<\/abbr> students to return and complete their degrees.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/zoom-meeting-gnrc-feature-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"person watching a Zoom screen\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-131212\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/zoom-meeting-gnrc-feature-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/zoom-meeting-gnrc-feature-130x130.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/zoom-meeting-gnrc-feature.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;It is not too late to consider starting 2021 in college, headed toward a degree or professional certificate,&rdquo; said <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Vice President for Community Colleges <strong>Erika Lacro<\/strong>. &ldquo;It does not matter whether you never attended or are coming back after years away. All of the data shows that people who earn a college degree or certificate earn more money over their lifetimes, are less likely to become unemployed, live longer and healthier, and their children are more likely to pursue a higher education and experience these same benefits.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The spring semester at <abbr>UH<\/abbr> will primarily be taught online except for those courses and course activities where in-person instruction is necessary, such as labs and shops. Classes start on January 11, 2021. Appropriate physical distancing, facial coverings and sanitization protocols, per the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> COVID-19 guidelines, are strictly followed. Reported positive cases of COVID-19 on <abbr>UH<\/abbr> community colleges campuses have been extremely low.<\/p>\n<p><abbr>UH<\/abbr> leadership is optimistic about the fall 2021 semester and a gradual return to normal with a greater mix of in-person, hybrid and online instruction.
