  {"id":130401,"date":"2020-11-10T15:30:22","date_gmt":"2020-11-11T01:30:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/?p=130401"},"modified":"2020-11-12T08:13:30","modified_gmt":"2020-11-12T18:13:30","slug":"mindfulness-with-aloha-breath","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2020\/11\/10\/mindfulness-with-aloha-breath\/","title":{"rendered":"Book teaches keiki to embrace mindfulness with aloha"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> &lt; 1<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minute<\/span><\/span><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/manoa-ctahr-mindfulness-book.jpg\" alt=\"book cover\" width=\"676\" height=\"381\" class=\"size-full wp-image-130397\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/manoa-ctahr-mindfulness-book.jpg 676w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/manoa-ctahr-mindfulness-book-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/manoa-ctahr-mindfulness-book-130x73.jpg 130w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 676px) 100vw, 676px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A new children\u2019s book <em>Mindfulness with Aloha Breath<\/em> serves as a resiliency resource for <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>\u2019s keiki. <strong>Thao Le<\/strong>, from the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> at M\u0101noa\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/cms.ctahr.hawaii.edu\/\">College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources<\/a> (<abbr>CTAHR<\/abbr>) has created a tool to  help children practice mindfulness with the incorporation of Hawaiian values of aloha.<\/p>\n<p>Le, a professor in the Department of <a href=\"https:\/\/cms.ctahr.hawaii.edu\/fcs\">Family and Consumer Sciences<\/a>, partnered with the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Department of Human Services\u2019 (<abbr>DHS<\/abbr>) Office of Youth Services to deliver 3,000 copies to six <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Department of Education area complexes on <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span> and <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Island, as well as 1,000 copies to nonprofit organizations serving youth and families throughout the islands.<\/p>\n<p>Using her new book as a springboard, Le is currently conducting professional training sessions for <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> <abbr>DHS<\/abbr> staff to cultivate resiliency in children across the state.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I&#8217;m so grateful and excited for this opportunity,&rdquo; she said. &ldquo;It is a challenging time for all of us to focus on the here and now with patience and kindness.
