It is the highest voter turnout rate in the United States since 1900. The State of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> also had a record number of votes cast. Although the final outcome of many national races, including the one for president, were still unknown the day after November 3, the impact of the 2020 election may last decades.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This represents tremendous civic engagement, and people who vote for the first time tend to stay voters,&rdquo; said University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> at M\u0101noa Chair of the <a href=\"https:\/\/communications.manoa.hawaii.edu\/\">School of Communications<\/a> and Director of the <a href=\"https:\/\/publicpolicycenter.manoa.hawaii.edu\/\">Public Policy Center<\/a> <strong>Colin Moore<\/strong>. &ldquo;You saw people who haven\u2019t voted in their lifetimes participating in this election, now they\u2019re registered, now they know how to do it. I predict that we\u2019re going to see a bump in overall American turnout and years following this election.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Moore said it is especially true for young people voting for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;A close election like this can help them keep participating for the rest of their lives.
