The University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span>\u2013West Oʻahu<\/span><\/a> ranked No.<\/abbr> 1 in faculty diversity of four-year public institutions in the Chronicle of Higher Education Almanac 2020–2021<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

The category, “Colleges With the Greatest Racial and Ethnic Diversity Among Faculty Members, Fall 2018,” lists UH<\/abbr> West Oʻahu<\/span> at the top of its list of all four-year public institutions for a second year in a row.<\/p>\n

UH<\/abbr> West Oʻahu<\/span> has a diversity index of 73.5, according to the almanac. The diversity index indicates on a scale of 1 to 100 the probability that any two full-time instructional faculty members at an institution are from different racial or ethnic groups. No.<\/abbr> 2 University of Maryland-Eastern Shore has a diversity index of 70.9.<\/p>\n

The diversity index for UH<\/abbr> West Oʻahu<\/span> is also higher than any other listed four-year institution—public, private nonprofit or for-profit—in the entire category.<\/p>\n

“We are extremely proud that the Chronicle of Higher Education<\/em> has identified UH<\/abbr> West Oʻahu<\/span> as the institution with the highest degree of faculty diversity of any four-year college or university—public or private—in the nation,” said Alan Rosenfeld<\/strong>, associate vice chancellor for academic affairs at UH<\/abbr> West Oʻahu<\/span>.<\/p>\n

“This is a testament to our institutional values and the result of many years of successful faculty searches that cast a wide net to find not only the most diverse but also the most dedicated and talented teacher-scholars to welcome into our campus ʻohana<\/span>,” Rosenfeld said.<\/p>\n

The Chronicle\u2019s Almanac<\/em> also lists UH<\/abbr> West Oʻahu<\/span> No.<\/abbr> 2 in fastest-growing colleges (public baccalaureates; No.<\/abbr> 1 is Georgia Gwinnett College in Lawrenceville, Ga.) and No.<\/abbr> 2 in transfer students as percentage of overall enrollment (public baccalaureates; No.<\/abbr> 1 is Athens State University in Athens, Ala.).<\/p>\n

“We want the people of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> to know that they do not need to travel 3,000 miles away to achieve a diverse and fulfilling college experience,” Rosenfeld said. “It’s waiting for them right here in their own backyard on the ʻEwa<\/span> plain of Oʻahu<\/span>.”<\/p>\n

The Chronicle<\/em>‘s annual Almanac of Higher Education<\/em> brings context to data with detailed tables and analysis on faculty, students, finance and all 50 states.
