COVID-19 has provoked the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression and experts are busy formulating strategies to navigate the recession and lay groundwork for growth and resilience. On October 21 at 8 a.m., the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Better Tomorrow Speaker Series<\/a>, UH<\/abbr> Economic Research Organization<\/a> (UHERO<\/abbr>), Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Community Foundation and Kamehameha Schools will present a virtual discussion, “Recovery to Resilience: Steps Toward the Post-COVID Economy.”<\/p>\n

Harvard economist Edward Glaeser will lead the conversation set to include topics such as the future of cities, public investment and economic diversification, and the challenges and opportunities posed by climate change.<\/p>\n

Glaeser is a specialist in cities, ideas transmission and determinants of economic growth and authored books Triumph of the City<\/em> and After the Flood<\/em>. Other featured speakers in the virtual event include UHERO<\/abbr> research fellows Makena Coffman<\/strong>, professor of urban and regional planning, and Sumner La Croix<\/strong>, professor emeritus of economics.<\/p>\n

“Ed Glaeser\u2019s research on American cities and global economic crises provides far-reaching and unexpected insights into the American economy and provides important clues on how the U.S.<\/abbr> and Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> economies will change in response to the COVID-19 crisis,” said La Croix.<\/p>\n
