ʻImiloa<\/span> Astronomy Center<\/a> will continue to honor the spirit of the wayfinder at its 13th annual Wayfinding Celebration but, this time around, the event will take on a virtual talk story presence on October 23 at 4 p.m. ʻImiloa<\/span> and the Ama Olukai Foundation are set to feature a panel of select crew members from iconic voyaging canoe, Hōkūleʻa<\/span>. The free session will showcase the history of the Polynesian Voyaging Society\u2019s formative years, Hōkūleʻa<\/span>: The Revival Begins, 1975–1980.<\/p>\n

Audiences will hear Captain Gordon Piʻianaiʻa<\/span>, Billy Richards, John Kruse, Snake Ah Hee and ʻImiloa<\/span>‘s navigator-in-residence Kālepa Baybayan<\/strong> share remarkable stories and unprecedented experiences that led up to the iconic sail of Hōkūleʻa<\/span>.<\/p>\n

“Keeping our voyaging stories and connections alive is a kuleana that ʻImiloa<\/span> embraces,” said Kaʻiu<\/span> Kimura<\/strong>, ʻImiloa<\/span> executive director. “We are anxiously excited to be offering our first ever live virtual presentation to share these first-hand experiences and are so very grateful for the continued support of the Ama Olukai Foundation and all of the presenters in making this available to the wider public.”<\/p>\n

Ama Olukai Foundation Executive Director Dan Mclnerny will moderate the presentation followed by a question and answer session.<\/p>\n

“Our mission is to partner with organizations that honor Hawaiian culture and traditions by preserving the ocean and land, and ʻImiloa<\/span> is an incredible resource for our community that does just that,” said Mclnerny.<\/p>\n
