The University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at M\u0101noa<\/a> has been awarded two Title VI<\/abbr> International Education grants totaling almost $1 million from the U.S.<\/abbr> Department of Education. These awards maintain UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa\u2019s standing in an elite group of U.S.<\/abbr> universities with a dominant presence in international studies, especially in the Asia and Pacific region.<\/p>\n

The National Resource Center (NRC<\/abbr>)<\/a> for Southeast Asia grant combined with the NRC<\/abbr> for East Asia grant totals $965,764 for the next two years (2020–2022).<\/p>\n

The NRC<\/abbr> grants will support modern language instruction, teacher training, curriculum development, outreach and library collections. The NRC<\/abbr> grants are housed in the School of Pacific and Asian Studies<\/a> (SPAS<\/abbr>), under the new College of Arts, Languages, and Letters<\/a> (CALL<\/abbr>). SPAS<\/abbr> is considered a leader in Pacific and Asian Studies nationally and internationally.<\/p>\n

“Advancing research and educating our students in the context of the rich cultures that surround us is important as we prepare them for the future,” UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa Provost Michael Bruno<\/strong> said. “These grants will ensure that UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa and the School of Pacific and Asian Studies continue to be a driving force in the generation and dissemination of knowledge of cultures across the Asia and Pacific region.”<\/p>\n
