Burns School of Medicine<\/a> (<abbr>JABSOM<\/abbr>) is encouraging everyone to join them in the fight to end domestic violence. To amplify the message, they\u2019ve produced a public service announcement and a collection of videos featuring <abbr title=\"university of hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa administrators, <abbr>JABSOM<\/abbr> students, faculty, staff and local celebrities, who urge the public to reach out to those who may be victims and seek help.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;It (domestic violence) breaks everything about the person: their body, their mental and emotional state, their outlook on life. The worst part is that they feel they can never escape,&rdquo; said <strong>Chaz Kuniyoshi<\/strong>, a second-year medical student who is part of <abbr>JABSOM<\/abbr>\u2019s Domestic Violence Awareness Committee.<\/p>\n<p>According to the committee, there has been an alarming rise in domestic violence and abuse cases internationally due to shelter-in-place mandates meant to curb the spread of the ongoing pandemic. <\/p>\n<p>The <abbr title=\"public service announcement\">PSA<\/abbr> features several male <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa campus leaders, including: <abbr>JABSOM<\/abbr> Dean <strong>Jerris Hedges<\/strong>, Provost <strong>Michael Bruno<\/strong>, Athletics Director <strong>David Matlin,<\/strong> College of Engineering Dean <strong>Brennon Morioka<\/strong>, College of Education Dean <strong>Nathan Murata<\/strong> and <span aria-label=\"Hawaiinuiakea\">Â鶹´«Ã½nui&#257;kea<\/span> School of Hawaiian Knowledge Dean <strong>Jonathan Osorio<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Local celebrities who make their pledge against domestic violence include: Ben Vegas, Billy V, Augie T, Josh Tatofi, Justin Cruz and more.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/jabsom.hawaii.edu\/join-the-fight-against-domestic-violence-during-the-month-of-october\/\">Vew the videos<\/a> and find out how you can participate in the fight against domestic violence. <\/p>\n<h2>Get help now!<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Domestic Violence Action Center<\/strong><br \/>\n<span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span> helpline: (808) 531-3771<br \/>\nToll-free helpline: (800) 690-6200<br \/>\nNew text line: (605) 956-5680<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A <abbr title=\"public service announcement\">PSA<\/abbr> and videos produced by the John A.
