This federal funding, secured by U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz through his work on the Senate Appropriations Committee is part of $26,992,923 that was awarded to 23 Native Hawaiian educational programs, including <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> or <abbr>UH<\/abbr> partnership programs across the state.<\/p>\n<p>&rdquo;We are deeply grateful to Sen. Schatz and his colleagues for their support of these truly transformational programs,&rdquo; said <abbr>UH<\/abbr> President <strong>David Lassner<\/strong>. &ldquo;The University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> is deeply committed to improving the lives of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>&#8216;s people and communities that need us most through public higher education.  In these challenging times, federal support is more critical than ever to increase access and success for Native Hawaiians across our <abbr>UH<\/abbr> campuses.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The <abbr>UH<\/abbr> programs receiving funds:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Oi Ka <span aria-label=\"Naauao\">Na&#699;auao<\/span> <abbr title=\"science, technology, engineering and mathematics\">STEM<\/abbr> Pathways for Success<\/strong> will provide scholarship and academic support services to undergraduate students at four Native Hawaiian-serving postsecondary institutions in the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> System. The project will partner with N\u0101 Pua <span aria-label=\"Noeau\">No&#699;eau<\/span> to provide educational <abbr>STEM<\/abbr> outreach activities for K&#8211;12 students and families.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Manawa K\u016bpono undergraduate and graduate school access and success<\/strong> will increase the college readiness, access and success for Native Hawaiian students from high-poverty schools on <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span>, <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Island, <span aria-label=\"Kauai\">Kaua&#699;i<\/span> and <span aria-label=\"Molokai\">Moloka&#699;i<\/span>. This program will provide intensive and individualized services to a targeted group of students who are most at risk of not attending college.<\/p>\n<p><strong>K\u016blia Support Project <abbr>STEM<\/abbr> Preparation, Coaching, Mentoring<\/strong>, proposes to enhance and expand a successful support model addressing the needs of Native Hawaiian youth at-risk of failure in postsecondary education.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ka Pilina <span aria-label=\"Noeau\">No&#699;eau<\/span> <abbr title=\"2\">II<\/abbr> <abbr>STEM<\/abbr> Workforce Development<\/strong> seeks to refine and replicate the math and science learning model to increase <abbr>STEM<\/abbr> engagement and improve the math and science outcomes of Native Hawaiian K&#8211;5 students.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Project H\u014dk\u016blani <abbr>STEM<\/abbr> Workforce Development<\/strong> is a three-year, culturally responsive, strength- and work-based <abbr>STEM<\/abbr> enrichment and college transition project proposed in response to the <abbr>STEM<\/abbr> workforce shortage among underrepresented groups such as Native Hawaiians and individuals with disabilities.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span aria-label=\"LaupaI\">Laupa&#699;I<\/span> Ka <span aria-label=\"Ike\">&#699;Ike<\/span> <span aria-label=\"KuamoO\">Kuamo&#699;O<\/span> Hawaiian Language Multimedia Development<\/strong> seeks to increase access of grade 6&#8211;20 Hawaiian language\/immersion students to critical multimedia Hawaiian language and knowledge resources, skills and career pathways through an innovative multi-pronged process designed to pass knowledge and career skills from a cohort of seasoned educators to a new generation of Hawaiian language speakers resulting in increased language fluency and career readiness.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span aria-label=\"Aha\">&#699;Aha<\/span> Lamak&#363; <span aria-label=\"Oiaio\">&#699;Oia&#699;i&#699;o<\/span> Culturally Responsible Leadership Development, Mentoring and Transition Support<\/strong> is a large-scale comprehensive effort to assist at-risk Native Hawaiian youth led by a longstanding partnership between the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Curriculum Research and Development Group, Pacific Literacy Consortium in the College of Education and the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Department of Education.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This new federal funding will ensure that Native Hawaiian educational programs have the resources they need in time for the upcoming school year,&rdquo; said Schatz.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.schatz.senate.gov\/press-releases\/schatz-secures-27-million-in-new-federal-funding-for-native-hawaiian-education\">Learn more from Sen.
