Thousands of people, including University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> students and employees, took advantage of the opportunity to do a COVID-19 self-administered nasal swab test (PDF<\/abbr><\/small>)<\/a> on Sunday, August 30, on UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa\u2019s<\/a> McCarthy Mall and at a drive-thru center on the UH<\/abbr> West Oʻahu<\/span><\/a> campus.<\/p>\n

The free testing was part of the 14-day initiative of “surge testing” by the City and County of Honolulu, the U.S.<\/abbr> Department of Health and Human Services and the Office of the U.S.<\/abbr> Surgeon General. <\/p>\n

“The entire process went quite smoothly and was very organized,” said Debbie Kutara<\/strong>, UH<\/abbr> licensing administrator, who signed up to get a test on the UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa campus. “My appointment time was at 9:10 a.m. and I got through pretty efficiently. Everyone wore masks, and a police officer was marking off the social distancing spacing.”<\/p>\n

The federal government is providing the tests and covering all associated costs with the goal of completing 70,000 tests over 14 days.<\/p>\n
