Without these two values, I would not have been where I am today.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Related <em><abbr>UH<\/abbr> Hilo Stories<\/em> article:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/hilo.hawaii.edu\/chancellor\/stories\/2020\/08\/18\/biology-major-receives-scholarship\/\">Biology major receives scholarship from non-profit supporting Micronesians in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span><\/a>, August 18, 2020<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The scholarship was created in 2019 in honor of <abbr title=\"Doctor\">Dr.<\/abbr> <strong>Joakim &ldquo;Jojo&rdquo; Peter<\/strong>, a <abbr>UH<\/abbr> alumnus. The educator dedicated his life to advocate for the well-being of his people.<\/p>\n<p>Wakuk currently holds an internship at the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Cancer Center, and is eager to pass on Peter\u2019s legacy. &ldquo;He fought for healthcare coverage for all Micronesians. He once told me that it was his intention to change how people see disability. He wants the world to look at him just like a normal human being regardless of his physical well-being.
