Thompson School of Social Work<\/a> and  the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Department of Health (<abbr>DOH<\/abbr>). The <abbr>DOH<\/abbr> hotline for crisis support has been expanded to include access to mental health resources and substance use treatment services. Callers in need of these services can call <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> <abbr>C.A.R.E.S.<\/abbr> (Coordinated Access Resource Entry System) for support in any of these areas 24 hours a day, seven days a week.<\/p>\n<p>To access <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> <abbr>C.A.R.E.S.<\/abbr> services, call 1 (800) 753-6879&#8212;the number previously used by Crisis Line of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>The initiative combines services provided by the Crisis Line of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\u2014which\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½&#8212;which<\/span> offers crisis support to individuals experiencing a mental health crisis\u2014and <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> <abbr>C.A.R.E.S.<\/abbr>&#8212;which addresses gaps in substance use treatment services, including the identification of available beds for residential treatment, reducing wait time for entry into treatment programs and sharing electronic health information for better patient outcomes.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_124339\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-124339\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/manoa-social-work-clifford-bersamira-headshot.jpg\" alt=\"man smiling\" width=\"250\" height=\"350\" class=\"size-full wp-image-124339\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/manoa-social-work-clifford-bersamira-headshot.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/manoa-social-work-clifford-bersamira-headshot-214x300.jpg 214w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/manoa-social-work-clifford-bersamira-headshot-93x130.jpg 93w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-124339\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Clifford Bersamira<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&ldquo;When you call <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> <abbr>C.A.R.E.S.<\/abbr>, you will be connected to a local crisis counselor who will ask a bit about you, what your needs are and how they can help,&rdquo; said <strong>Kathryn Boyer<\/strong>, <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> C.A.R.E.S. program director. &ldquo;We are here to listen and to provide you with helpful resources to get you through the challenges you are facing during the pandemic, and beyond.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>A campaign to promote the new <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> <abbr>C.A.R.E.S.<\/abbr> services will launch this week and run until mid-November, through the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Association of Broadcasters Public Education Program.
