Graduates were awarded degrees by Interim Director of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr>&#8211; P\u0101lamanui, <strong>Raynette &ldquo;Kalei&rdquo; Haleamau-Kam<\/strong>, and then they moved their mortarboard tassels from right to left as a symbol of completing their degree. Families took videos and photos, waved signs, cheered and honked horns during the festive event.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/53092216@N07\/albums\/72157715325397223\/with\/50177590743\/\">Flickr Album of Event<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Due to COVID-19, the in-person commencement ceremony that traditionally occurs in May was canceled. On behalf of the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Community College administration, faculty and staff, we commend you for your resilience and perseverance through these challenging times.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>A total of 102 graduates earned associate degrees and certificates this year from the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr>&#8211;P\u0101lamanui campus in Hawaiian studies, natural science, culinary arts and other academic programs. Among this year&#8217;s graduates were four high school students from Kealakehe High School who earned  associate degrees through the early college program delivered by the college, which means they earned a college degree at the same time as their high school diploma. In addition, 12 local high school students graduated with <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Lifestyles Academic Subject Certificates.<\/p>\n<p><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr>&#8211;P\u0101lamanui is part of the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> system. Students earn associate degrees and certificates that prepare them to enter the workforce right after graduation or seamlessly transfer to <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> four-year campuses to earn bachelor\u2019s degrees.<\/p>\n<p>The campus is also home to the <a href=\"http:\/\/hawaii.hawaii.edu\/universitycenter\">University Center, West <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span><\/a>, which provides local support for students who enroll in online and hybrid bachelor\u2019s and graduate degrees at other <abbr>UH<\/abbr> campuses.<\/p>\n<p>There is still time to <a href=\"http:\/\/hawaii.hawaii.edu\">apply for the fall 2020 semester<\/a>, the deadline is August 10 and there is no application fee for <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> residents.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8212;By Thatcher J.P.
