A search advisory committee comprised of 23 faculty, staff, student and community representatives has been named to lead the search for a new chancellor for the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at Mānoa<\/a> after current Chancellor Virginia Hinshaw steps down at the conclusion of her five-year appointment in June 2012 and returns to teaching.<\/p>\n

UH<\/abbr> President M.R.C. Greenwood<\/strong> announced the members of the search advisory committee October 28. “The search for UH<\/abbr> Mānoa’s next chancellor is critical to the future not only of the Mānoa campus, but also of the university system and our state,” she said. “As the university’s flagship campus, Mānoa must provide excellence and leadership in undergraduate, graduate and professional education and in research and service to the community.”<\/p>\n

Screening of applicants and nominees will begin in January 2012, and on-site visits by candidate finalists will be scheduled for March and April 2012. Greenwood hopes to submit a recommendation to the Board of Regents in late spring 2012 and see a new chancellor start in summer or early fall 2012.<\/p>\n

The committee, which held its first committee meeting later Friday, is chaired by Klaus Keil<\/strong>, planetary scientist with UH<\/abbr> Mānoa’s Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Institute of Geophysics and Planetology, and co-chaired by Regent Emeritus Mark Fukunaga<\/strong>, chairman and chief executive officer of Servco Pacific.<\/p>\n
