Surprised with a large check for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2019\/05\/24\/student-surprised-with-free-tuition\/\">semester of free tuition courtesy of the <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> Federal Credit Union<\/a> in May 2019, Kaneshiro became the third generation in her family to attend <abbr>UH<\/abbr>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Looking back, winning the contest helped me have a positive and confident start in this new chapter of my life,&rdquo; said Kaneshiro. &ldquo;I was able to try courses in my first semester that I don\u2019t think I would have if I hadn\u2019t won the contest.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Related <em><abbr>UH<\/abbr> News<\/em> story: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2019\/05\/24\/student-surprised-with-free-tuition\/\">Kaiser student wins <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa tuition in #MakeManoaYours contest<\/a>, May 24, 2019<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Now an exploratory business major, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/Buk7rccnkvS\/\">Kaneshiro\u2019s<\/a> motivation to be the next generation at <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa was first inspired by her grandmother. With fond memories of attending <abbr>UH<\/abbr> sporting events as a child with her family, there was no other place she wanted to pursue her passions than at <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa. The #MakeManoaYours contest afforded Kaneshiro the opportunity to follow her dreams and pursue her academic goals at home.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This first year was a great experience!
