She is a doctoral student in <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa\u2019s College of Education (<abbr title=\"College of Education\">COE<\/abbr>) <a href=\"https:\/\/coe.hawaii.edu\/cs\/\">Department of Curriculum Studies<\/a> and also holds a master\u2019s degree in zoology from <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2008, Ambrosino has been with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.himb.hawaii.edu\/\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Institute of Marine Biology<\/a> (<abbr>HIMB<\/abbr>) where she currently works in the Marine Science Research Learning Center (<abbr>MSRLC<\/abbr>). She conducts research and develops place-based marine science and research methodology curricula for high school and college students. She has co-taught <abbr>COE<\/abbr> graduate students on Moku o <span aria-label=\"Loe\">Lo&#699;e<\/span>, also known as Coconut Island.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I was very honored to receive this award, and it is timely encouragement as I wrap up my dissertation work,&rdquo; Ambrosino said. &ldquo;Having been trained as a researcher in the natural sciences, my confidence as an educator and education researcher sometimes wavers. This award has added to the support I already receive from my students and colleagues at the <abbr>MSRLC<\/abbr> and the <abbr>COE<\/abbr> who inspire and challenge me to develop my identity as both a scientist and an educator.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Ambrosino said she has learned the importance of recognizing students as complex beings who bring valuable experiences and knowledge of their own to the classroom.
