One of the FBI<\/abbr>’s top cyber security experts, Deputy Assistant Director James Burrell, will share the FBI<\/abbr>’s perspectives on current threats and investigations as related to higher education institutions during a live presentation at University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at Mānoa<\/a> on Monday, December 10. Burrell currently serves as the deputy assistant director of the Cyber Division section at the FBI<\/abbr> headquarters in Washington, DC.<\/p>\n

Burrell was assigned to the National Infrastructure Protection Center—the precursor to the Cyber Division’in 1998 and later was promoted to unit chief of the Cyber Division—s International Investigative Support Unit. For more than five years, he was a delegate to the G-8 Senior Experts Subgroup on High-Technology Crime. Burrell also supervised the Computer Intrusion, Cyber Crime and Computer Analysis Response Team programs in the Boston field office and later served as Boston’s assistant special agent in charge with responsibility for the cyber program.<\/p>\n

The one-hour presentation will originate from Kuykendall Hall Room 201 at 11:30 a.m. with broadcast over the Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Interactive Video Service<\/a> (HITS<\/abbr>) network to sites on seven UH<\/abbr> campuses. Seating is limited so early reservations are recommended online through the IT<\/abbr> Security section of the Information Technology Services training site<\/a>.
