The University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Economic Research Organization<\/a> (UHERO<\/abbr>) is recruiting businesses to complete a second survey<\/a> geared toward understanding the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span>\u2019s businesses.<\/p>\n

The survey asks questions about changes in employment and employee wages, monthly revenue and revenue sources, the current state of operations, plans for opening trans-Pacific tourism, impact of the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP<\/abbr>) and future outlook.<\/p>\n

“Much has changed since our last survey,” UHERO<\/abbr> Executive Director Carl Bonham<\/strong> said. “The PPP<\/abbr> program was expanded and modified, the Kamaʻaina<\/span> economy has re-opened, and tourism is expected to begin a gradual re-opening next month. This survey will provide invaluable information about what businesses are experiencing on the ground and how the changing environment is affecting their expectations.”<\/p>\n

Results from the April 2020 survey<\/a> revealed the hardest hit industries were accommodations (hotels) and retail businesses.<\/p>\n

UHERO<\/abbr>, housed in UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa\u2019s College of Social Sciences<\/a>, is partnering with the Chamber of Commerce Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span><\/a>, Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Island Chamber of Commerce<\/a>, Kauaʻi<\/span> Chamber of Commerce<\/a> and Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce<\/a> to field the survey.<\/p>\n
