(Photo credit: Jean-Luc Bousquet)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> at M&#257;noa <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/hshk\/\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaiinuiakea\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½nui&#257;kea<\/span> School of Hawaiian Knowledge<\/a> is hosting a weekly series of virtual seminars that highlight stark similarities within Polynesian mythology. Professor <strong>Lilikal&#257; <span aria-label=\"Kameeleihiwa\">Kame&#699;eleihiwa<\/span><\/strong> organized the Kamakak&#363;okalani Brandt Webinar Series on Polynesian Ancestral Knowledge that features scholars from parts of Polynesia including Aotearoa (New Zealand), Tonga, Marquesas and Rapa Nui.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I want to expand the imagination of the people, and empower Hawaiian and Polynesian identity,&rdquo; <span aria-label=\"Kameeleihiwa\">Kame&#699;eleihiwa<\/span> said.<\/p>\n<p>Hawaiians refer to Earth Mother as Papah&#257;naumoku or Haumea, and Sky Father as W&#257;kea or Orion. In Aotearoa, Earth Mother is Papat&#363;&#257;nuku and Sky Father, Rangi&#257;tea. Each week discussions will focus on various similarities and fascinating differences.<\/p>\n<p>Episodes will air every Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. <abbr title=\"Hawaii Standard Time\">HST<\/abbr> on <a href=\"http:\/\/https.\/\/bit.ly\/brandtweb\">Zoom<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/hshkuhm\/\">Facebook Live<\/a>, or on <a href=\"https:\/\/oiwi.tv\/\"><span aria-label=\"\u014ciwi\">&#699;\u014ciwi<\/span> TV: Channel 326<\/a>. Likewise in French Polynesia, there are many Native Tahitians, Marquesans, Tuamotuans and Austral Islanders who are not in university. We want them to join the show too,&rdquo; said <span aria-label=\"Kameeleihiwa\">Kame&#699;eleihiwa<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>The virtual series kicked off in June and the next episode, Tahiti Creation: <span aria-label=\"Taaroa\">Ta&#699;aroa<\/span> Makes the World, will air on Wednesday, July 8 and features temple expert <span aria-label=\"Moohono\">Mo&#699;ohono<\/span> Niva and cultural expert Hironui Bouit. <span aria-label=\"Taaroa\">Ta&#699;aroa<\/span> is a Tahitian deity that is respected in many Polynesian cultures as the creator of the Universe. Interestingly, Hawaiian deity Kanaloa and M&#257;ori deity Tangaroa are recognized as the Ocean God.
