The scholarship recognizes leadership, outstanding academic achievement and rigor, and engagement in college and community activities. She is one of two students selected to receive this scholarship this year.<\/p>\n<p>Lucas graduated from <a href=\"https:\/\/hawaii.hawaii.edu\/\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> <abbr title=\"Community College\">CC<\/abbr><\/a> this spring with the highest honors. Distinguished Chapter Members are selected based on a student&#8217;s embodiment of the Hallmarks of the Society through Honors in Action and other chapter activities. This is only the second time in Honolulu <abbr>CC<\/abbr>\u2019s history for a <abbr>PTK<\/abbr> member to be recognized with an international individual award.<\/p>\n<p>Wills graduated in May with an <abbr>AA<\/abbr> in liberal arts with honors and is the proud mother of two children. She attended the 2019 <abbr>PTK<\/abbr> International Honors Institute at San Diego State University thanks to the generous support from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alulike.org\/services\/ka-ipu-kaeo\/nhfaap\/\">Alu Like<\/a>, a Native Hawaiian financial aid assistance program.<\/p>\n<h2>Leeward Community College<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_119423\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-119423\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Abigail_Eli_Leeward-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"Abigail Eli\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-119423\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Abigail_Eli_Leeward-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Abigail_Eli_Leeward-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Abigail_Eli_Leeward.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-119423\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Abigail Eli<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.leeward.hawaii.edu\/\">Leeward <abbr>CC<\/abbr><\/a>\u2019s <strong>Abigail Eli<\/strong>, a teacher education major and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.leeward.hawaii.edu\/WaianaeMoku\"><span aria-label=\"Waianae\">Wai&#699;anae<\/span> Moku<\/a> student, was selected as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ptk.org\/news\/2020\/03\/26\/top-transfer-students-named-2020-new-century-transfer-scholars\/\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>\u2019s New Century Transfer Pathway Scholar<\/a>, a national <abbr>PTK<\/abbr> scholarship program. She will be awarded a $2,250 scholarship to continue her education. Eli was selected based on her academic accomplishments, leadership, activities and how she extends her intellectual talents beyond the classroom.<\/p>\n<p>Eli is an outstanding student and a community leader. In summer 2019, Eli and her family of 13 lived with the homeless in <span aria-label=\"Waianae\">Wai&#699;anae<\/span> four years ago to &ldquo;experience what others who are less fortunate face in their daily lives&rdquo; and explore how she could better help those in need. It was then that Eli realized education was the key to breaking the cycle of homelessness in her community.<\/p>\n<h2>Windward Community College<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_119427\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-119427\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/McKenzi_Johnson-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"McKenzi Johnson\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-119427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/McKenzi_Johnson-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/McKenzi_Johnson-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/McKenzi_Johnson.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-119427\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">McKenzi Johnson<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/windward.hawaii.edu\/\">Windward <abbr>CC<\/abbr><\/a> student <strong>McKenzi Johnson<\/strong> was the other recipient of the $1,000 Pacific Region Transfer scholarship for the score she earned in <abbr>PTK<\/abbr>\u2019s scholarship competition.
