The program provides <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2020\/05\/17\/free-community-college-classes-hawaii-2020-class\/\">advisor support and free <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> Community College career exploration courses<\/a> to help graduating seniors transition to post-high school education or job training.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We cannot thank First Hawaiian Bank and the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Community Foundation enough for their support of the class of 2020,&rdquo; said <abbr>UH<\/abbr> President <strong>David Lassner<\/strong>. &ldquo;Their generosity will help students and their families in this time of unprecedented crisis by enabling the gift of post-secondary education and their better future, which represents an investment in a better future for all of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><abbr>HCF<\/abbr> will award the scholarships on a case-by-case basis, and funding can cover traditional educational expenses, such as tuition and books, or other emergency expenses. <abbr>HCF<\/abbr> will make <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaiicommunityfoundation.org\/students\">online applications available in July<\/a>, and updates will be posted on the <abbr>HCF<\/abbr> and <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Next Steps website.<\/p>\n<p>First Hawaiian Bank and <abbr>HCF<\/abbr> provided the seed funding for the Stronger Together <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Scholarship Fund, which they hope other donors will contribute to, enabling the fund to help a greater number of students affected by COVID-19 this year and students who are in need in future years. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.strongertogetherhawaii.org\">Donations to the Stronger Together <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Scholarship Fund can be made to <abbr>HCF<\/abbr> online<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Next steps to future success<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/system-uhcc-next-steps-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-118704\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/system-uhcc-next-steps-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/system-uhcc-next-steps-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/system-uhcc-next-steps.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Next Step college classes are provided on a first come, first serve basis, and students can identify and develop their next steps toward their career goals, whether to enroll in college, seek employment or both. Students will begin to earn college credits, explore career options and discover the education and training available at <abbr>UH<\/abbr> to help them reach their goals.<\/p>\n<p>All public high school graduates are encouraged to sign up for classes via the <a href=\"http:\/\/uhcc.hawaii.edu\/nextstep\/\">Next Step: Career Exploration<\/a> website, email or text <a href=\"mailto:nextstep@hawaii.edu\">nextstep@hawaii.edu<\/a>. The first class begins on May 26, and the sign-up deadline is May 28 for the next class which begins on June 8.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We recognize that each senior has their own story and their own needs,&rdquo; said Bob Harrison, chairman, president and <abbr>CEO<\/abbr> of First Hawaiian Bank. &ldquo;The Stronger Together <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Scholarship fund is designed to remove as many barriers as possible for this year\u2019s high school graduates by offering flexible funding, and a range of continuing education options to encourage students to pursue their dreams&#8211;and be supported in the process.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Graduating public school seniors who are from low to middle income families will receive priority, and neighbor island graduates are encouraged to apply.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The Stronger Together <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Scholarship Fund will allow graduates to pursue the path that is right for them&#8211;whether that is job training or a four-year degree,&rdquo; said Micah K\u0101ne, president and CEO of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Community Foundation. &ldquo;We believe supporting these students goes beyond investing in their individual futures.
