“Our mission is to educate young people,” said MAʻO<\/span> Organic Farms co-founder Kukui Maunakea-Forth, “to create a workforce and to create opportunities.” As Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> embraces sustainable approaches to island living, problem-solvers bring forward advances in energy, agriculture and education; completely off-grid housing; and internships for careers in locally grown produce.<\/p>\n

Also, the new University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> Office of Sustainability<\/a> demonstrates what Â鶹´«Ã½\u2019s<\/span> future can be. These stories, and UH<\/abbr>\u2019s many responses to the unpredictable flux of life during a pandemic, are highlighted in the spring 2020 issue of UH<\/abbr> Magazine<\/em><\/a> for alumni and friends.<\/p>\n

Read about Karen Tan\u2019s vision as CEO<\/abbr> of Child and Family Services, an “incubator and innovator” with new strategies to address domestic violence, sex trafficking, sexual harassment in the workplace and families on the brink of homelessness. The UH<\/abbr> alumna said, “Our doors remain open, and our providers work tirelessly to help families.”<\/p>\n

Catch up with alumni from across the UH<\/abbr> system, including two grads whose paths intersected as player and coach but continue as friends and mainstays in the high school volleyball landscape; and a Living Treasure of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> who founded the first Hawaiian language preschools.<\/p>\n
