The one-day session held on Thursday, April 2, provided 118 University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> health science students the opportunity to work as a team, planning care for a simulated geriatric client. <\/p>\n<p>Typically, the event is conducted at the <a href=\"https:\/\/nursing.hawaii.edu\/thssc\/\"><abbr title=\"university of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> Translational Health Science Simulation Center<\/a> (<abbr>Â鶹´«Ã½THSSC<\/abbr>) located at <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa Nursing. Due to the <abbr title=\"coronavirus 2019\">COVID-19<\/abbr> pandemic, the <abbr>Â鶹´«Ã½THSSC<\/abbr> staff quickly converted the event to an online format.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uhfoundation.org\/give\/giving-opportunity\/covid-19\">Support the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Student Relief fund and COVID-19 research<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The students come from various health science units at <abbr>UH<\/abbr>, including the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa <a href=\"http:\/\/jabsom.hawaii.edu\">John A. Burns School of Medicine<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/nursing.hawaii.edu\">School of Nursing and Dental Hygiene<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/sswork\/\">Myron B. Thompson School of Social Work<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/publichealth\/\">Office of Public Health Studies<\/a> and Â鶹´«Ã½Hilo <a href=\"http:\/\/pharmacy.uhh.hawaii.edu\/\">Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The School of Social Work was instrumental in the implementation of Zoom breakout rooms. Using Zoom, students broke out into small groups of interprofessional teams to create discharge plans for a geriatric patient with multiple medical problems. Working as a team and relying on each profession\u2019s specialized focus, groups developed discharge plans for the patient to ensure a successful transition home. <\/p>\n<p>Following the planning, student teams conducted a live discharge meeting with a family member of the geriatric client. The actor playing the role of the family member was a graduate student from the HealthCAST program, a collaboration of <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa nursing and the <a href=\"http:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/liveonstage\">Department of Theatre<\/a> and Dance.
