To document the research during the <abbr>COVID-19<\/abbr> pandemic, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.soest.hawaii.edu\/soestwp\/\">School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology<\/a> (<abbr>SOEST<\/abbr>) is asking the <abbr title=\"University of Hawaii\">UH<\/abbr> <span aria-label=\"ohana\">&#699;ohana<\/span> to showcase their work on Instagram and use the tag &#35;ScienceMarchesOn.<\/p>\n<p>To participate, when you post on Instagram use &#35;ScienceMarchesOn in the caption and tag <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/soest_uh\/\">&#64;soest_uh<\/a> in the post.<\/p>\n<h2>&#35;ScienceMarchesOn examples<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Julia Hammer<\/strong>, an earth sciences professor, mixed up a batch of hand sanitizer to share with laboratory researchers needing to keep tabs on sensitive equipment. Hammer studies the chemistry and microstructure of volcanic rocks to learn more about lava, volcanoes and the processes happening beneath Earth&#8217;s surface. So far, they have proven this technique can detect copper sulfate and aluminum.
