Credit: <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Sea Grant King Tides Project.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>With schools across the country shuttering classes due to the coronavirus, one climate education project is moving full-speed ahead.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, April 7 at 3:30 p.m., <span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> Community College will host a statewide webinar focused on equitable local solutions that can be implemented in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> to help respond to anticipated climate disruptions. The project, called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.solveclimateby2030.org\/\">Solve Climate By 2030<\/a>, features simultaneous, university-led webinars in almost all <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bard.edu\/cep\/solardominance\/powerdialog\/\">50 states plus Washington D.C.,  Puerto Rico<\/a> and 10 other countries.<\/p>\n<p>For college and high school teachers adapting to remote learning, &ldquo;Climate Policy, Resilience, and Change in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> in the age of COVID&rdquo; provides a ready-made lesson plan. Teachers can participate in the webinar, and then do related class activities online the next day.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We in these islands cannot shape a hopeful, beautiful and rewarding future for the next generations, by ourselves. We will need the 50 other states, Pasifika territories and nations, and the other 180 sovereign nations to work together to find solutions fast,&rdquo; said Bob Franco, director of <span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> <abbr title=\"Community College\">CC<\/abbr>\u2019s Office for Institutional Effectiveness.<\/p>\n<p>This event will bring together climate experts in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> who have been asked to identify three ambitious, but feasible things that could happen in the state over the next couple of years\u2014reforms that would really move the needle on solving climate change.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uhfoundation.org\/give\/giving-opportunity\/covid-19\">Support the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Student Relief fund and COVID-19 research<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> panel, entitled &ldquo;Climate Policy, Resilience, and Change in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span>&rdquo; will be moderated by Krista Hiser, director of the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> System Center for Sustainability Across the Curriculum and will feature the following panelists:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Chip Fletcher<\/strong>, Professor and Associate Dean of the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology<\/li>\n<li><strong>Makena Coffman<\/strong>, Professor and Director of the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa Institute for Sustainability and Resilience<\/li>\n<li><strong>Laurien &ldquo;Lala&rdquo; Nuss<\/strong>, Climate Resilience and Equity Manager of the Honolulu Office of Climate Change, Sustainability, and Resiliency<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Online breakout discussions will engage participants in how to move on climate action, especially in this time of coronavirus.<\/p>\n<p>The webinar focused on <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> solutions is not just for environmental studies teachers.
