Martin of the Electrical Engineering Department<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Larry K. Martin<\/strong>, a University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> at M&#257;noa <a href=\"http:\/\/www-ee.eng.hawaii.edu\/\">electrical engineering<\/a> graduate student, has been named the winner of the 2011&#8211;12 Alton B. Zerby and Carl T. Koerner Outstanding Electrical and Computer Engineering Student Award, recognizing him as the most outstanding electrical engineering student in the nation.<\/p>\n<p>Martin, who graduated with his <abbr>BS<\/abbr> in electrical engineering from <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa in fall 2011, was named the winner of the award by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hkn.org\/index.asp\">Eta Kappa Nu<\/a>, the national electrical engineering society, based on his achievements as an undergraduate student.<\/p>\n<p>Martin had previously been recognized with the 2012 <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Council of Engineering Societies Student Engineer of the Year Award and the Fall 2011 Outstanding Graduating Senior in Electrical Engineering.<\/p>\n<p>Martin has received numerous other scholarships and awards, including being a two-time recipient of the prestigious National Consortium for Measurement and Signature Intelligence Research Scholarship. He has also authored or co-authored several journals, conference papers and magazine articles.<\/p>\n<p>As program\/technical manager of the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eng.hawaii.edu\/\">College of Engineering<\/a>&#8217;s Small-Satellite Program, Martin assisted in writing several proposals that earned the program two NASA launch opportunities in 2013&#8211;14. The mission of the two nanosatellites scheduled to launch is to provide calibration for radar stations around the world. The program was founded by Electrical Engineering Professor <strong>Wayne Shiroma<\/strong> in 2001.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;It&#8217;s great to see that Larry&#8217;s tremendous accomplishments are being recognized on the national level as well,&rdquo; said Shiroma. &ldquo;I&#8217;m also very proud that another student from our program has received this prestigious honor.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Martin will be recognized at the <abbr>IEEE<\/abbr>-Eta Kappa Nu awards banquet in March 2013 in Orlando, Florida.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8212;Adapted from a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/article.php?aId=5395\"><abbr>UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa news release<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Larry K.
