More than 130 students from three high schools presented 84 projects at the fair, which was held in February. Projects from Pearl City, Waipahu and Campbell high schools were adjudicated by 83 judges as students displayed their research and answered the judges questions.<\/p>\n<p>The winning students will represent the Leeward district and State of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in May.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_113955\" Investigating which natural materials can be used to create an environmentally friendly sanitary pad by Antoinette Consolascion Pinera and Christina Jayne Bayani from Waipahu High School<\/li>\n<li><strong>Winning Individual Project:<\/strong> Constructing solar asphalt collectors into Waipahu roads by Jeyan Francis Cornelio from Waipahu High School<\/li>\n<li><strong>Overall third place:<\/strong> Reef protection starts with the right protection by Kuualoha Andrade, Dean Cabato and Riki Nishizawa from Waipahu High School<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Proud family and friends were joined by Leeward <abbr title=\"Community College\">CC<\/abbr> Chancellor <strong>Carlos Pe\u00f1aloza<\/strong> and state lawmakers.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a Herndon<\/strong> and <strong>Sandro Jube<\/strong>, faculty from Leeward <abbr>CC<\/abbr>\u2019s math and sciences division.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_113958\"
