John A. Burns School of Medicine<\/a> students Kristin King<\/strong> and Justin Grubbs<\/strong> traveled to Yap this summer as part of the school’s summer elective program known as MD5.<\/p>\n

The international elective program is part of the school’s global health and medicine efforts. The school is committed to training a globally competent health workforce with skills to address critical global health problems. It also strives to understand and reduce health inequalities around the Pacific Rim.<\/p>\n

While in Yap, King and Grubbs participated in the beginnings of the data collection for a research project to evaluate the needs and capability for cancer diagnosis and treatment. The project is led by the Cancer Coalition of the Pacific Islands.<\/p>\n
