It was established as a memorial to the late Frances Davis, who taught mathematics at Leeward Community College and <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa for 19 years.<\/p>\n<h2>Terrence Bruns, <span aria-label=\"Kauai\">Kaua&#699;i<\/span> Community College<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Terrence Bruns<\/strong> is an instructor of biological sciences in the Department of Science and Mathematics at <a href=\"http:\/\/kauai.hawaii.edu\/\"><span aria-label=\"Kauai\">Kaua&#699;i<\/span> Community College<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Bruns has taught on the island of <span aria-label=\"Kauai\">Kaua&#699;i<\/span> since 1990 when he started teaching at <span aria-label=\"Kapaa\">Kapa&#699;a<\/span> High School. He has taught chemistry, biology, anatomy, physiology, microbiology and botany, where part of the lab included teaching students about square foot gardening. In doing so, Bruns started a program in which students provide <span aria-label=\"Kauai\">Kaua&#699;i<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr>&#8217;s Culinary Arts program with fresh vegetables and herbs.<\/p>\n<p>Bruns&#8217; hobbies include brewing beer, golfing, hiking and playing guitar.<\/p>\n<h2><span aria-label=\"Kuualoha Hoomanawanui\">Ku&#699;ualoha Ho&#699;omanawanui<\/span>, <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa<\/h2>\n<p><span aria-label=\"Kuualoha Hoomanawanui\">Ku&#699;ualoha Ho&#699;omanawanui<\/span> is an assistant professor in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.english.hawaii.edu\/\">Department of English<\/a> in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lll.hawaii.edu\/\">College of Languages, Linguistics and Literature<\/a> at <a href=\"http:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/\"><abbr>UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span aria-label=\"Hoomanawanui\">Ho&#699;omanawanui<\/span> has taught more than a thousand students over the past five years, in courses that connect Pacific literature with other indigenous and classical narratives.<\/p>\n<p>She was born in Kailua and raised both there and in Wailua Homesteads on <span aria-label=\"Kauai\">Kaua&#699;i<\/span>. <span aria-label=\"Hoomanawanui\">Ho&#699;omanawanui<\/span> is not only a teacher and scholar, but also an artist who is a highly respected community leader in Hawaiian literature, culture and politics.<\/p>\n<p>She is the editor of Oiwi: A Native Hawaiian Journal, which creates opportunities for never before published writers, scholars, activists and youth. <\/p>\n<h2>Christopher Jacobsen, <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Community College<\/h2>\n<p>Christopher Jacobsen is an instructor in the agriculture program in the Applied Technical Education Division at <a href=\"http:\/\/hawaii.hawaii.edu\/\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Community College<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Jacobsen has made the rounds in the <abbr>UH<\/abbr> System. After graduating from <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Hilo with a <abbr>BS<\/abbr> in tropical horticulture, he spent 12 years working for <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ctahr.hawaii.edu\/site\/\">College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Jacobsen spent his youth in Minnesota. He finds peace and relaxation through meditation and enjoys gardening, landscaping, hiking and bodysurfing.<\/p>\n<h2>Roger Kwok, Leeward Community College<\/h2>\n<p>Roger Kwok, assistant professor of chemistry and physical sciences in the Department of Mathematics and Science at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.leeward.hawaii.edu\/\">Leeward Community College<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Kwok was born in Hong Kong but moved to <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> at the age of 9. He received both his <abbr>BS<\/abbr> ad <abbr>MS<\/abbr> in Physics from <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa.<\/p>\n<p>Kwok takes pride in making science fun and engaging for his students by using interactive activities and colorful demonstrations in class. From his personal collection of fossils and minerals, Kwok developed a Natural History Exhibit in the science study lab that is available to the community. He also uses his collection while making scientific presentations at public elementary and high schools.<\/p>\n<p>Kwok is an associate director of the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> Space Grant Consortium.<\/p>\n<h2>Marianne Takamiya, <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Hilo<\/h2>\n<p>Marianne Takamiya is an assistant professor of <a href=\"http:\/\/hilo.hawaii.edu\/academics\/astronomy\/\">astronomy<\/a> in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at <a href=\"http:\/\/hilo.hawaii.edu\/\"><abbr>UH<\/abbr> Hilo<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Takamiya received her <abbr>BSc<\/abbr> in physics and <abbr>MSc<\/abbr> in astronomy from the Universidad de Chile and her <abbr>PhD<\/abbr> in astronomy and astrophysics from the University of Chicago. She did her post-doctoral research as a Gemini Science Fellow at the Gemini Observatory and was a research associate at <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Hilo.<\/p>\n<p>She has been with <abbr>UH<\/abbr> Hilo since 2008.<\/p>\n<p>Takamiya&#8217;s research interests include star formation and galactic dust absorption, evolution of field galaxies, quasar absorption line galaxies and globular clusters.<\/p>\n<h2>Sean Trundle, <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa<\/h2>\n<p>Sean Trundle is a graduate teaching assistant in the <a href=\"http:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/amst\/\">Department of American Studies<\/a> in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/arthum\/\">College of Arts and Humanities<\/a> at <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa.<\/p>\n<p>He is a doctoral candidate in American studies at <abbr>UH<\/abbr> M&#257;noa and has been a teaching assistant since the fall of 2007.
