Jennifer Brown<\/strong>, the chair of University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at M\u0101noa Transfer Coordination Center<\/a>, has been nationally recognized by the National Institute for the Study of Transfer Students<\/a> (NISTS<\/abbr>) for her work in successfully transitioning students from UH<\/abbr> community colleges to UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa.<\/p>\n

Brown was honored as one of four NISTS<\/abbr> Bonita C. Jacobs Transfer Champion—Rising Star winners. The award recognizes individuals who are making significant contributions in the early stages of their careers, creating or improving programming that is responsive to the specific transfer student population and shows evidence of success. The award was presented in early February in Atlanta, Georgia.<\/p>\n

Splitting her time between UH<\/abbr> M\u0101noa<\/a> and Kapiʻolani<\/span> Community College<\/a>, Brown works with colleagues to support and advise students as they prepare for transfer. As a part of both the sending and receiving institutions, she bridges the gap between the two and has played a pivotal role in improving relationships and emphasizing shared goals.<\/p>\n

“Jenn is one of our real academic adviser leaders on campus,” said Ronald Cambra<\/strong>, assistant vice chancellor for undergraduate education. “The smooth transition from community college to a four-year campus really gives students the best chance for success, and Jenn has done an amazing job as our director of the M\u0101noa Transfer Coordination Center to give them that chance.”<\/p>\n

Each year, NISTS<\/abbr> is proud to recognize exemplary transfer advocates who are positively influencing policies, practices, programs and processes to benefit transfer students.
