Margaret Anne McManus<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Professor Margaret Anne McManus<\/strong> is the first female appointed as chair of the Department of Oceanography in the University of Â鶹´«Ã½<\/span> at Mānoa\u2019s School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology<\/a> (SOEST<\/abbr>).<\/p>\n

McManus, who was nominated and elected by the faculty of the Department of Oceanography<\/a> and approved by the dean of SOEST<\/abbr>, is the first woman to hold this position in the 56-year history of the department.<\/p>\n

“I am honored to be appointed as chair of the Department of Oceanography to serve our outstanding faculty, staff, postdoctoral researchers and students,” said McManus. “I look forward to working collaboratively with our department, school, university and community in the years to come.”<\/p>\n

With 24 years of postgraduate experience, McManus has an established, internationally recognized research program, is known for her excellence in teaching and mentoring, and has held key leadership positions in the Department of Oceanography, SOEST<\/abbr>, UH<\/abbr> Mānoa and the oceanographic community. She earned her PhD<\/abbr> in oceanography from the Center for Coastal Physical Oceanography at Old Dominion University.<\/p>\n

McManus is replacing previous chair Professor Niklas Schneider<\/strong> who has been selected to lead UH<\/abbr> Mānoa\u2019s International Pacific Research Center.<\/p>\n
