United States researchers estimate that consumers have, on average, two to three obsolete computers in their garages, closets or storage spaces. <abbr>UH<\/abbr>&#8217;s Education and Government eWaste Disposal Days program is a great opportunity to recycle that equipment safely and responsibly. Every ounce counts!<\/p>\n<p>Public and private schools, city, county, state or federal\/military branches, non-profits, small businesses (of less than 100 employees) and private citizens are all encouraged to participate by dropping off unwanted ewaste that will be accepted free of charge October 25&#8211;27 at seven sites on four islands.<\/p>\n<p>Thursday, October 25 and Friday, October 26, are designated as equipment drop off days for the following groups who are required to preregister through the program&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/ewaste\">webpage<\/a>, and indicate the amount of equipment that they wish to recycle:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All public or private schools or universities\n<\/li>\n<li>All city, county, state or federal\/military branches\n<\/li>\n<li>Small to medium sized businesses (of less than 100 employees)\n<\/li>\n<li>Non-profit organizations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>No preregistration is required for <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> residents who wish to recycle their unwanted personal electronics free of charge at any of the sites on Saturday, October 27.<\/p>\n<p>Participating in <abbr>UH<\/abbr>&#8217;s recycling effort will help eliminate some of the negative impact that improper ewaste disposal has on <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> and the world. All ewaste collected will be shipped to certified recycling centers in North America where the equipment will be processed in an environmentally safe manner.<\/p>\n<p>Drop off sites will be located at the <a href=\"http:\/\/jabsom.hawaii.edu\/jabsom\/\">John A. Burns School of Medicine<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/windward.hawaii.edu\/\">Windward Community College<\/a, <\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.leeward.hawaii.edu\/\">Leeward Community College<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/hilo.hawaii.edu\/\"><abbr>UH<\/abbr> Hilo<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/maui.hawaii.edu\/\"><abbr>UH<\/abbr> Maui College<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/kauai.hawaii.edu\/\"><span aria-label=\"Kauai\">Kaua&#699;i<\/span> Community College<\/a>. The <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Âé¶¹´«Ã½<\/span> State Department of Education will host a drop off site at Kealakehe High School in Kailua-Kona. All seven sites will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.
